June is National Homeownership Month and National Affordable Housing Network (NAHN) is here to help you celebrate! There is no better time to apply for affordable housing through NAHN’s Mutual Self Help Housing Program. NAHN is currently offering build opportunities in Butte, Whitehall, Boulder, and Anaconda.
Self Help Housing is a program of USDA Rural Development with over 50 years of operation, including over 25 in SW MT through the efforts of NAHN and Habitat for Humanity of Southwest Montana. Self Help Housing assists very-low and low income families construct brand new, energy-efficient homes designed according to their individual budgets and needs. Each must participate in pre-purchase housing credit counseling, homebuyer education, and contribute 1,000 hours of sweat equity to the build. Most family members have no prior construction experience and work with Habitat’s Site Coordinator to learn on site. The homes are built concurrently and families agree to help out in all homes, moving in only when all are complete.
