FACTS ABOUT THE HIGH PERFORMANCE HOMES BEING BUILT ON THE RICHEST HILL

We are working to bring investment to Central Butte to help revitalize the area, and as part of this process, we are building several new homes to help improve our neighborhood. We are building four homes in this block (600 block of Dakota Street) under the High Performance Housing Partnership program. The program includes homes built by the National Affordable Housing Network and Habitat for Humanity. The homes are appraised at $68,000.

HOW LONG WILL THE CONSTRUCTION PROCESS TAKE?

Most of the homes will be built by a contractor and will be completed in 180 days. Two of the homes will be built by Habitat for Humanity volunteers over the next year.

WHO QUALIFIES TO PURCHASE THE HOMES?

The qualifications are that the owner must qualify for bank mortgage and have an income under 80 percent of median income or 50 percent of median income for Habitat homes.

ARE ANY HOMES STILL AVAILABLE?

Several contractor-built homes are still available for sale (two have already been taken.) Call 782-8145 to get an application package. (Habitat has a waiting list, but families may still apply, as situations change and sometimes homes become available to families on the waiting list.)

ARE COMPANION PROGRAMS AVAILABLE FOR HOMEOWNERS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD?

Butte-Silver Bow's community development department has applied for federal grant funding for this neighborhood, including grant and loan funds for sidewalks, lighting, weed control, street repair, water-sewer work, and other community revitalization.

Over the next year, the community housing development organizations (housing non-profits) will be working to redevelop rehabilitation programs to assist homeowners needing support to upgrade their homes. In addition, Butte-Silver Bow has applied for funding to fix up rental properties rented by low-income citizens of Butte.

To participate in these programs, call or join the Richest Hill Home Center at 782-8579.
